How to Get Into a Productive Mood: 9 Practical Tips

Some days, you just don’t feel like doing anything, but there are things that need to be done. Here are nine practical tips to help yourself get into a productive mood.

1. Take a short nap

When exhaustion hits, getting things done becomes more and more difficult. A brief Power Nap can give you a much-needed refresh, and enable you to get things done more quickly and efficiently.

2. Hydrate and eat a healthy snack

Similarly, hunger and thirst can drain your system both emotionally and physically. Take a drink and eat a nutritious snack to boost your energy level.

3. Do five minutes of stretches

A little movement goes a long way. It helps your body relax and sends blood flow to the brain.

4. Tidy your workspace

A clear space can go a long way to helping you feel fresh and ready to start a project.

5. Write a to-do list

When you take the tasks that are floating around in your head and transform them into a concrete list in black and white, you clarify what you need to do. That’s the first step to moving forward.

6. Do a small task

Completing one task, even if it’s nothing major, creates a feeling of momentum. From there, it’s easier to move into the rest of your list.

7. Put on an energizing playlist of music

There’s nothing like an upbeat tune with a good beat to create a mood that’s energizing and empowering.

8. Give yourself a time-limit

Being productive might feel daunting if you plan on working for hours. Making a commitment to work for a set amount of time (say 15-25 minutes) can help you get the ball rolling without feeling like you bit off more than you can chew.

9. Give yourself a reward

Prizes aren’t just for children. Big people can be fueled by incentives, too. Reward yourself with a phone call to a friend or a chapter of your book when you’ve accomplished what you set out to do.

At different times, you will need different things, so pick and choose from this list as needed. Just ask yourself, what do I need to get myself going? You’ve got the answer in you.
