When it comes to planning big projects, there are some parts that can slip my mind and not make it on to my to-do list. Some of you may be in the same boat as me, so here is a list to help remind you about all the details.
1. Right Before
The moments leading up to a big event is always the most hectic. Make a list of the last minute details that need to get done right before your big project. This can be a list for Erev Yom Tov, a big work meeting, or the day of a child’s wedding.
I like to keep this separate from my regular to-do list so when it comes to big day, all I need to do is focus on that one list.
2. The After
When I’m making a to-do list for something big, there’s one part that I almost always forget entirely. The After. What do I mean by that? I forget to think about what comes after the big event. The putting away leftovers, the cleanup, and unpacking of suitcases. All the things that we do after the fun is over.
So the next time you’re planning something big, include a to-do list of the things you’ll need to do after. That way, you don’t need to start figuring out what steps to take when you’re tired. You can just look at your list and follow it on autopilot.

3. Just in Case
When you’re down the last hour, it’s so much more difficult to think about what you might need in case of an emergency. Prepare this list ahead of time to save yourself from any unplanned disasters. This can be a list of items to bring on a plane trip (chewing gum), to bring to a family simcha (baby wipes), or to have on hand when you give a work presentation (waterbottle with a straw).
If you’re not sure what you might need, think back to the last time you were in a similar scenario. Was there anything you wished you would’ve prepared better? If this is your first time doing this kind of thing, you can always ask someone else for advice.
So there you have it. Three types of to-do lists to prepare so you can cut down on the stress of a big event.
